The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) today said it has launched three new engineering programmes in India in partnership with Northumbria University of UK. The courses are – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Master of Science Project Management. “We have launched three new engineering programmes. Admissions will be opened to Indian students and the first intake will take place in September, a statement from MDIS said here. The programmes at MDIS are aimed to produce graduates proficiently for challenging and rewarding careers in all facets of engineering, ranging from R&D, product design to development and manufacturing, it said.
MDIS’ Head of School of Engineering, Lai Yin Ling, said, “Many employers find value in employing engineers, whether it is for management, operational, execution or planning roles, regardless of the sector. “Engineers are known for their excellent analytical skills and the Northumbria University programmes are specifically tailored to prepare them for the rigours of a fulfilling career.” MDIS also offers merit scholarships (International), which are awarded to students on the basis of academic performance, leadership potential, special talents or other personal characteristics. – Courtesy
MDIS Expands Footprint into India with Joint Venture with VELS University
Singapore, 22 July 2015 – Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) has embarked on several ambitious plans to expand their footprint in the region. The private education institution recently entered into a joint-venture with Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VELS) University in Chennai, India, to set up MDIS – VELS Education Private Limited. This will mark their third overseas campus. The agreement was inked today by Dr. R. Theyvendran, Secretary-General of MDIS and Dr Ishari Ganesh, Founder and Chancellor of VELS University.
MDIS will be holding a 51 percent share of the entity and the remainder is held by VELS University. The total investment for the joint venture is expected to be approximately SGD10 million. The first intake is scheduled for October 2015, and students will be able to pursue a variety of programmes from diploma to masters in the field of business and management, subject to regulatory approvals. Progressively, more programmes will be added in 2016 to include hospitality, tourism, IT and mass communication. As part of the programme, students will be required to complete their semesters in both Singapore and India campuses. For the time being, MDIS India will operate out of the VELS University premises. Construction for the new campus in Chennai, an estimated 70,000sqf, will begin in July 2016.
