KTU to Organise Twin Programmes (KETCON and TECHFEST) to Boost Research, Innovation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) will organise Kerala Technological Congress (KETCON) and TECHFEST here in January 2016. While KETCON is aimed at improving the culture of research in higher educational institutions, TECHFEST aims at developing a culture of innovation among engineering students in the state. The twin programme which has the theme ‘Technology for Sustainability’ will be held on January 8 and 9 at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, which was selected as the host institute from among the proposals received from various engineering colleges. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb will inaugurate KETCON on January 8. Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe, chairman, AICTE, will be the chief guest. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will attend the valedictory function on January 9. “The twin events will benefit the academic community and society in general. It will promote the culture of research in the engineering colleges in Kerala. Students and faculty will get an opportunity to present the results of their research efforts before a learned society in the engineering field,” KTU Pro Vice Chancellor M Abdul Rahman said.

The programme also helps the students to see the developments taking place in other engineering institutions and paves way to an inter-institutional co-operation. At KETCON, research contributions by the students, faculty and researchers from   engineering colleges will be presented in multiple parallel sessions. Research efforts in all areas of science, engineering and technology are welcome and invited as extended abstracts of papers.  The abstracts will be evaluated by an eminent panel of reviewers and the papers thus selected will be presented in KETCON. Over 100 papers will be presented in the technical sessions. In addition to the contributed papers, the programme of KETCON will include keynote and invited talks by professional leaders on subjects of topical relevance. TECHFEST is essentially an exhibition and competition of innovative products developed by the engineering students of Kerala. More than 100 projects are expected to be vying for the top positions in the very competitive projects contest. Stalls with necessary facilities will be arranged by the host college and the participating teams will be provided with facilities for accommodation and boarding facilities.
