THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Delays in publishing results of engineering and MBA examinations will soon be a thing of the past. Setting a new trend in the conduct of examinations, A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) is all set to roll out Web-Enabled Examination System, which enables publication of results within five days. The new system will be rolled out in the first semester MBA exam slated to begin on November 19 and the BTech and MTech examinations scheduled to start on December 2. Over 40,000 students in KTU-affiliated institutions across the state will appear for the new mode of examinations, which aims to do away with valuation camps.

How it Works

On the day of exam, the Controller of Examinations will randomly select one question paper from among a series of question papers. This will reach the examination centres online. There will be two passwords assigned to open and print the question paper at the exam centre. While one password will be provided to the Chief Superintendent, the other one will be given to the External Observer. After the exam, answer scripts will be stored in the Examination Control Room. Scanning of the answer scripts shall be carried out under the supervision of the superintendent in charge of examinations and the observer appointed by KTU. Scanned answer scripts will be uploaded to the central server.

Once the scanned answer scripts are available in the server, User Name and Password will be sent to the faculty in charge of evaluation. Action will be taken against faculty members who do not evaluate their quota of answer scripts within the stipulated time. Each answer script will be subjected to double evaluation. If there is a variation of more than 15 marks, the answer script will be subjected to another round of evaluation. The student will be awarded an average of the marks given in the two sets of evaluation. “Compared to the normal valuation, Web-Enabled Examination is much simpler and easier. There is no question of omission of any answer by the evaluator. It also does away with the strenuous task of tabulation as the system has been designed to carry out that task,” KTU Pro V-C M Abdul Rahman said. This will enable results to be published in five days from the last date of examination, he added. –  Courtesy
