COIMBATORE: The Union ministry for human resource and development on Monday extended the last date for submission of details under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) from December 31 to January 15. The decision may be considered a major relief for colleges in Chennai and the other three flood-affected districts in Tamil Nadu. Colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore are limping back to normalcy, and are facing a distorted academic routine due to the havoc caused by the recent floods. Member secretary of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) A K Nassa confirmed the decision. He said, “Many colleges had approached us asking for an extension of the last date of submission of details. The flood in Chennai and the other three districts is also a reason that we have factored in.” The NBA is the body that will be administering the ranking system that went live in November. Dean, planning and development, SASTRA University, Thanjavur, S Vaidhyasubramaiam, said, “It’s a huge relief and certainly for many Tamil Nadu-based institutions which are in exam mode battling a distorted calendar due to the recent rain. I thank the HRD minister for responding graciously and extending the last date to January 15, 2016.” – Courtesy /
