NEW DELHI: The AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) has made it clear that no technical institute is entitled to receive from students any other fee in addition to that fixed by the state or regulatory committee. Violation of guidelines could lead to the imposition of penalties that shall be twice the total fees collected per student and excess fee collected shall be refunded to the student. Suspension of approval for supernumerary seats for one academic year, reduction in sanctioned intake and withdrawal of approval of the Institution.  Further, excess admissions over the sanctioned intake shall not be allowed under any circumstance, the AICTE said, cautioning that penalty for excess admission amounting to five times the total fees collected per student shall be levied against each excess admission. In its approval process handbook for 2016-17, AICTE has said that in the event of non-availability of students in NRI category, seats will be given to general candidates as per general merit and general fee shall be applicable to these candidates thus admitted against vacant NRI seats.  To check irregularities in technical institutes, AICTE said that institutes violating guidelines in cases of refund of fee on cancellations of admissions or delaying refunds shall be liable for penalty. – Courtesy
