KOCHI:  Students and staff of KMEA Engineering College, Edathala, will organise an awareness drive for stem cell donation and a donor registration programme on Tuesday for a two-year-old child of Indian origin living in Boston.  The child, Mira, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May 2015, and was subjected to chemotherapy. In February 2016, her condition worsened, necessitating stem cell transplantation.  DATRI, a Chennai-based blood stem cell donors’ registry has been conducting a registration drive across the country to save the child’s life. –  Courtesy

DATRI is a non-profit organization that has been set up to help save lives of those suffering from life threatening disorders like leukemia, lymphoma etc.  With very few registered donors available in India, the possibility of finding a match for an Indian anywhere in the world is very bleak. DATRI is working towards creating a wide and diverse database of potential donors that can be accessed by any patient, living anywhere in the world, in need of a stem cell transplant. If you want to organize a donor drive or attend a drive in the city that you reside in, please contact our coordinators through the email id given below:
