Thiruvananthapuram: The private engineering college managements’ association in the state will conduct a separate entrance examination for admission to 50% of seats in colleges under them, which fall under the management and NRI quota this year. With the fee regulatory commission also giving its nod for the test, the association plans to conduct the examination on May 10.  The admission supervisory committee for professional colleges in Kerala has provisionally approved the managements’ association’s request for the conduct of separate entrance examination. The approval order has been given only for 2016 admission. The committee has also specified that a separate entrance prospectus be published with details about tuition and hostel fees for candidates seeking admission to engineering colleges under the management quota. “The rise in number of seats in engineering colleges has forced us to approach the government and Justice J M James committee for permission to conduct an entrance examination this time. The entrance examination will be held in at least 60 locations across the state,” said Kerala Self-financing Engineering College Managements’ Association secretary K M Moosa.  According to statistics, only 40,261 students took admission and 17,861 seats remained vacant when admission procedure was completed last year.

Association leaders said the results of the examination would be published by May 25. The results of the entrance examination conducted by the controller of entrance examinations for admission to merit seats are also expected to be announced by May 25.   The government and the management association are also learnt to have reached an agreement to allow the private colleges to give admission to students from other states on the basis of the marks they obtained in the qualifying examination. Several of the private engineering colleges have recently obtained necessary clearance from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for admitting foreign students as well on the basis of the marks they obtained in the qualifying examination. Candidates in both these categories would be exempted from the otherwise mandatory requirement of attending the entrance examination for the admission. For admission, candidates appearing for entrance should score minimum 10 marks for each subject. –  Courtesy      /      http://ksfecma.com/
