DEHRADUN: The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has last week put out a policy document on establishment of world class institutions, the guidelines of which are uploaded on UGC’s website for inviting comments/views and suggestions from academicians and stakeholders. People in general have also been invited to go through the policy document, regulation and guidelines and send their views and suggestions which if found suitable might be incorporated in future. It is learnt that the public notice has been put out on UGC’s website by Secretary, UGC, Jaspal Singh Sandhu on October 7 and the step has been hailed by the general public who is happy to be given a chance to remotely participate and have their say by giving suggestions for the establishment of world class institutions in India. The suggestions have been sought by October 28 from anyone interested.
“HRD ministry inviting suggestions from academicians and general public regarding establishment of world class educational institutions in India is indeed a big step . Even if few of the worthy suggestions by lakhs of concerned people are mulled over and considered in the long run, it will prove that our country’s education policy is in the right direction as things like these need collective effort” said Neeraj Singhal the president of the All Uttarakhand Parents Association (AUPA). Meanwhile, college students in the city state that asking for suggestions might be a good step but it will only be of any value, if the suggestions sought are duly considered and worked upon. “Most of my friends and cousins have joined universities abroad and I am the only one left here due to financial constraints. This step by MHRD will only be feasible, if they actually make good use of our suggestions and eventually establish world class institutions in India itself in the near future, else it will be a futile exercise” said Aman Gupta(name changed), a college student in Doon. – Courtesy
