Students from Government Engineering College, Thrissur and Placid Vidya Vihar Senior Higher Secondary school

Thrissur: The seventh edition of the ‘Manorama-IBS Yuva Mastermind,’ a science project competition for school and college students which concluded here Saturday, brought out a range of ideas for the conservation of environment and innovative solutions to water crisis.   team of students from  Government Engineering College, Thrissur, who came up with a futuristic design concept called ‘Smart Water Management System’, which helps households maintain estimates of water consumption and alert water authorities when supply gets disrupted due to leakage or pipe burst, won the first prize in the college category.   The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and a citation. In the school category, the team representing Placid Vidya Vihar Senior Higher Secondary School, Changanacherry, came out triumphant.  The students conceived an innovative project – the kitchen scrap decomposing bag – which converts kitchen and other domestic bio-waste into odorless compost.They will be awarded Rs 50,000, a memento and a citation.  Prizes were distributed by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) chairman Dr. S. Christopher. He announced that DRDO was keen to provide technical expertise to 50 select projects so that they could be developed into products.  IT consulting and development firm IBS was the main sponsor of the event while the technical assistance was provided by Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally. –  Courtesy /  http://www.yuvamastermind.in/
