COIMBATORE: Hundred students from Anna University and Government Engineering Colleges in the State will for the first time be going to foreign universities in July for two weeks under the Foreign Technical Training Programme (FTTP) introduced by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa last year.  In the first batch, 17 students, including 14 from mechanical and three from EEE will be visiting Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Spain between July 12 and 27. Similarly, another 16will be visiting the Yokohama National University, Japan between July 12 and 26.  On August 23, 2016, the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced the scheme in the State Assembly stating it was her wish to ensure that just as private engineering colleges sent their students to foreign universities for a short term training programme, the students of Government engineering colleges got it too. The scheme would involve a recurring expenditure of `1.5 crores a year. Out of these 100 students, 50 will be from Anna University and another 50 will be from Government Engineering Colleges in the State.

Jaya’s scheme

On August 23, 2016, the then CM Jayalalithaa announced the scheme in the Assembly stating it was her wish to ensure that just as private colleges sent their students to foreign universities for a short term training programme, the students of Government engineering colleges got it too .
