IIT Kanpur partners with Paytm to become a Cashless Campus

Paytm has announced that it has partnered with IIT Kanpur under its ‘Cashless Campus’ initiative to bring its cashless payment solution to the country’s premier engineering college.

Paytm has enabled its QR Code-based cashless payment solution across various offline touch-points within the IIT Kanpur campus including the Hostel Canteens, Medical Store, Tea Stalls, Book Stalls and Cycle Repairing shops among others. This will help students and teachers make quick and easy payments without the worries of carrying loose change. This move is in line with Paytm’s strategy of targeting major campus areas for cashless transactions. Commenting on the occasion, Kiran Vasireddy, Snr. Vice President – Paytm said, “Our ‘Cashless Campus’ initiative has proven to be a great success with the country’s youth. This is a clear reflection of the younger generation’s eagerness to choose digital payments over the hassles of cash. IIT Kanpur would be a great addition to our extensive portfolio of premium institutions including IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Madras and Sree Ram College of Commerce among others that have gone cashless with Paytm. We strongly believe these cashless campuses would add a huge positive impetus to our vision of a cashless India.”

Over the past years, Paytm has forged partnerships with several top colleges, universcities and coaching across India. Prominent institutions accepting Paytm include top management institutions like IIM A, IIM B, ISB- Hyderabad and Mohali, XLRI and IIM Indore and more. Premier engineering colleges like IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and IIT Gandhinagar among others also accept Paytm today. HRD Ministry directs schools, colleges to come into digital transaction mode

In a move to give push to government’s cashless transaction campaign, the Human Resource Development Ministry today directed all schools, colleges and higher education institutions to spread awareness among their students. A high-level meeting chaired by Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar was held here in which all senior officials were directed to spread awareness in all educational bodies, institutions about the use of cashless transactions. NITI Ayog also gave its presentation today to all HRD officials in this regard in which benefits of digital transactions were elaborated to them. The meeting was chaired by Mr Javadekar.

According to sources, “The Ministry directed all institutions and schools across the country to encourage and provide means the students to go for digital payments to pay their canteen bills, school/college fees and other payments within the institutions. “Some institutions and schools have already initiated in this regard and have distributed all the students in-house cards which they could use for their bill payments. “Even in some cases, the students have been seen giving penalty charges of library books through this card,” the official said adding, “Besides, some schools have organized Parents-teachers meet (PTM) so that their parents could support and educate their children to adopt digital transactions.” These directions have been given to CBSE, AICTE, NCERT and all other bodies, who would further spread awareness to their respective educational institutions, the official said.
