KOZHIKODE:  In a first in the state, the Government Engineering College, Kozhikode, is set to launch a mobile application for M-Governance (Mobile governance). The application named ‘GEC Capsule’ was developed by Muhammed Salih KP, a third year mechanical engineering student, along with the support from the Technical Business Incubator (TBI) active in the college and college union members. The new app will connect students and teachers with each other and help share and explore academic details and other subjects related to the college campus. “It will act as an intra-network between teachers and students and help to share even exam notifications,” said Salih.

What is included in the application

This application will provide all details regarding the college and its activities, needed for the students of the college. Teachers will have special access in the app and they can upload internal and university exam notifications, results, share lecture notes in pdf format and syllabus etc. “We are also planning to add alumni and their whereabouts to get information about the details regarding placements and information on higher studies,” said Salih. Students can even share the lost and found details of things from the campus. The app now supports only in Android smart phones. “We will soon be launching an upgraded version which can be installed in Windows and iOS also,” Salih said.

‘Science Quiz’

Meanwhile, another mobile application named ‘Science Quiz’ has already been launched in the college, also developed by Salih. This app is primarily made for learning procedures, mainly focused on science and engineering students. “SQ will provide knowledge in science in the form of quiz and games”, he said. The app released a month ago has over 150 users. The GEC Capsule is likely to be launched in an event as part of the ‘Lakshya’ tech fest on March 31. –  Courtesy
