Get Accreditation by June 25, UGC Tells Colleges and University.

VELLORE: The University Grants commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for all colleges and universities in the country to get accredited by June 25, 2015, said vice-chairman of UGC, Dr H Devaraj while delivering the valedictory address on Saturday at the two-day international conference on ‘Internationalisation of Higher Education and Quality Assurance’ hosted by VIT University. Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, Devaraj said that UGC was planning to introduce an effective monitoring system for quality education in universities. He said that under the National Mission on Education through information and communication technology, e-pathshala for 27 undergraduate courses will be made available online and free of cost within the next three months. UGC is also introducing online courses open for anyone, free of cost. A total of 100 Kaushal Kendras together with 102 community colleges will be established for research in vocational education and as centres for excellence in skill development, he said. He underlined the need for increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education, currently around 19 per cent. UGC has focused on sustainable development of academic institutions for the last 60 years and it will now shift to improving the quality of education and human resources.
